Projected materials are rich and effective instructional media. These kinds of visual aids are important in supporting learning because they can clarify, put emphasis and add interest to the topic if developed effectively. Projected materials can be created as a handout, transparencies, show in television and in projected however it is heavily depended on technology availability.
For the plant themed lesson, I develop a simple PowerPoint presentation material to support the discussion of the basic parts of a plant. To really dive into learning about plants, students need to understand their basic plant structures. The PowerPoint presentation material will enable the teacher to present the basic parts that reflects the process of plant growth thus a more clear, rich learning discussion. Instead of having a drawing of a plant with labels in one poster, the presentation material can focus to one part at a time e.g roots. The teacher and students have focus in their discussion and connect it with previous topic and activities.
The template used in the presentation material is simple, using green and black colors only. It also uses good quality picture of a sunflower from seed, to sprout until it blooms to a flower that is reflective of the life cycle of a sunflower. In each slide, the plant structure is highlighted with corresponding black label. The labels closely positioned with the plant part in focus and uses large readable font and font size. I also included an arrow pointing to the specific part of the plant. Each slide contains the title, label and image only without any distracting element.
The PowerPoint presentation material with its animation feature also included an informal assessment where the teacher can check the students understanding by delaying appearance of the part labels at the end of the presentation. In one material, the teacher can have discussing and assessment with uniform image and font.
Projected materials are effective instructional materials specially for higher class levels. It is important to use projected materials appropriate for the age of the target audience. Since the lesson is for young learners, more sensory instructional materials are more effective.
