For Module 7, I developed a display material that serves as both an illustrative and flow chart of how plants grow. This type of chart was utilized to convey the stages of growing a plant as shown in the illustrations. Since it will be used and displayed in the class for the whole duration of the lesson, this chart will be printed in poster size material.
The illustrations are kept simple using pictures that clearly show the stages/activities in growing a plant. The sequences of the stages are shown using numerical symbols. The young learners have understanding of numbers and can count from numbers 1 to 7 hence the chart only utilized number values up to number 6. The content in the chart is also connected to the different activities and discussion that the class will do for deeper understanding of the lesson.
There are simple verbal descriptions in the chart to support the illustrations. One word verbal descriptions supported by illustration can help in building early literacy skills for the young learners. The chart also uses large lettering and a simple font that can be read easily and at a distance.
The display material that will be displayed for the duration of the lesson week will serve as a guide and reference for the young learners. The learners can access the content from time to time as they write in their journals and perform the experiments. The display material will also be discussed on Day 2 to support the main topic and activity for the day which is about what do plants need to grow. The chart serve as an aid for the teacher and students in achieving one of the learning outcomes.
