Welcome! I am looking forward to another chapter in my eJournal of my journey to become an educator. This new course in Instructional Media Resources (EDS 151) is another exciting and valuable part of being an educator. Through instructional materials and resources, teaching and learning is ignited.

“ A mind is like a parachute. It doesn’t work if it is not open” – Frank Zappa
Instructional materials and resources is the key in igniting the mind, for new experiences, new skills and learning. Educators should be able to provide, develop and utilize appropriate instructional materials and resources that will facilitate learning. With the changing learning environment, the challenge to adapt, be creative and address the learners needs and styles is unavoidable.
In my journey to have my Professional Teaching Certificate in UP Open University, I am grateful to all my teachers who are always looking for materials and resources to facilitate my learning. During my first few weeks as a distance education student, I was expecting to read a lot, watch discussion clips and write some essays just like the online courses I previously attended. However, after two trimesters I am astounded on how much I learned with so little time, prior experience and very limited face to face interaction. I can attribute my learning to my teachers and the instructional materials and resources I was provided with.
As I start my third trimester in the time of COVID 19 pandemic, where anxiety, stress levels and distractions are high, it is very helpful for me to have a better understanding of myself as a learner. The tests and questionnaires I took in the preliminary activities provided an understanding of my study skills, self regulation and time management skills and how I can improve to further my learning. These kinds of resources, learners are better equipped to learn and illuminate the need and importance of instructional materials and resources in teaching and learning and in my journey as an educator. With this I give my pledge:
“I hereby pledge my commitment to give my best in participating in discussion and in accomplishing the course requirements. I will communicate with respect my opinions and insights. I understand that my learning and grade is dependent on my participation and engagement in all the activities of this course. “
Hello Charry!
With technology comes with great responsibility! It is overwhelming to what we can access now using this materials unlike to what we have way back college years.
It is interesting that amidst the pandemic, UPOU flourish because of the platform of distance learning. This maybe a a start of a more bigger number students lining up to go to UPOU (fearless forecast).
I am looking forward that you guys learn new things in this subject and hopefully help you move forward in the teaching industry.
Stay well and keep moving forward.
Sir Ley
