Thank you

“Pamatay ung exam.” Back in high school and college, this statement was commonly muttered by students after an examination. It is as if our teacher intended to torture us, to make us fail, or worst to make us fail the subjects. Students like me, perhaps, are so used to assessments given at the end of the period intended only to determine if we will proceed to the next level or not, or pass or fail results to the negative connotation of assessments. We may have never noticed the other assessments our dear teachers made everyday in our classroom. Assessments that are really meant to help the learners achieve the learning objectives. Assessments that are meant to evaluate what we know before the school year or semester. The different purposes of assessment are dedicated for us learners to improve our teaching learning experience, to help us achieve our learning objectives and not just pass or have high grades but to succeed in life.

The effort and hard work our teachers put in to develop, give and evaluate these classroom assessments is to be appreciated and celebrated. Our teachers give assessments to help us learn more and become more. It is not easy to develop a good assessment that is valid, reliable and aligned. I know there are teachers and professors who took this challenging task so we can be better learners inside and outside the classrooms. Looking back I remember the teachers and professors that challenge and motivate me to be more, to learn more and to give more for my growth.

As I continue my journey, I know how much effort it would take to develop good assessments but with the learning from this module, assessments have many purposes to help the students improve their learning Hopefully, like me, students especially in the time of assessments will say Thank you.
